Back Road Conditions Help Determine School Closings and Delays

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.Williamson County, Tenn--After a major snow or ice storm like Monday's, crews work as fast as possible to clear main roads. Often those streets are ready for drivers within hours after a storm passes.But the story is different for side streets. Ice and snow on neighborhood roads generally remain until mother nature melts them away. If temperatures remain below freezing, that process could take several days.School leaders will ride the roads after a storm to make sure buses can safely navigate them. Williamson County school leaders did that Monday afternoon and Fox 17 News went along.After checking the neighborhood roads, they decided it was too dangerous for school buses. Many other school districts in Middle Tennessee made the same decision Monday night and cancelled classes for Tuesday.
